Hospital bosses in Leeds have declared a ‘no questions asked’ amnesty in a bid to find some of their lost crutches and other walking aids.
Physiotherapy staff hope the move will reduce the amount of money they are having to spend on replacement equipment.
The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust has forked out more than £100,000 on new crutches alone in the last 18 months.
Items that are brought back after they are no longer needed by former patients cost much less to repair or refurbish so they can be used again.
Senior physiotherapist Andrea Mortimer, pictured, said: “We feel it’s always worth reminding people to just have a look around and hand equipment back in if they’ve inadvertently hung on to it.
“So, don’t be afraid to return your old crutches – we won’t tell anyone off! We will be very grateful for their return.”
Equipment can be returned to the main reception areas at Leeds General Infirmary and St James’s, Chapel Allerton, Seacroft and Wharfedale hospitals.
The trust’s amnesty will run until the end of December.
