A LEEDS hairdresser has proved he’s a cut above after winning a top award.

Adam Hopkins from RMUK at Eastgate in Leeds city centre has won a L’Oréal Professionnel Young Colourist Award for the North Eastern region, and will now be part of the Academy, which aims to support talented young hairdressers.

Over 1,000 people in the hairdressing industry gathered at Grosvenor House Hotel in London for the 59th annual awards on June 23. Adam, pictured third from the left, was one of eight finalists from across the country to win the title and was presented with his award by television presenter Caroline Flack.

To win, Adam had to take part in a live competition by completing two challenges of T-section highlights and a creative colour task.

These techniques were then judged by a team of expert colourists.

Judge Kate Wilson, from Trevor Sorbie, said: “The standard of the entries this year was incredibly high and this made the judging process much more intense.”
