A team of “wonderful” workers at a GP surgery have been nominated in the Yorkshire Evening Post Best of Health Awards.

The staff at Bellbrooke Surgery in Harehills, Leeds, are the latest to be put forward for recognition through the awards.

They have been nominated as Team of the Year for their dedication and kindness.

A patient put them forward for the honour, designed to highlight teams of health workers who go above and beyond the call of duty.

The patient said: “From the receptionists to nurses and doctors, they are a wonderful group of dedicated people who very rarely get the recognition that they deserve.”

They added: “They are a great team – polite, friendly, helpful and always willing to listen, even when they are extremely busy.”

Doctor Helen Alpin, one of the senior partners at the surgery, said they were over the moon to be selected.

She said: “We are delighted that the Bellbrooke Surgery Team has been nominated for the Team of the Year Award.

“We hope that this is a reflection of the care and service that we try and provide to our patients.

“We serve a very diverse community and this provides us with many complex day to day challenges.

“We recognise that we don’t always get it right but we are always trying to improve our services.”

Their nomination is just one of the teams put forward in this category of the awards.

Others include groups of workers from hospital wards, those who run day services and others who provide specialist outpatient care.

We are still looking for many more to be honoured through the Yorkshire Evening Post Best of Health Awards, which are being sponsored by Bradford-based Sovereign Health Care.

There are 10 categories in total, ranging from doctor, nurse and dentist to optician and midwife. We’re also keen to hear from any unsung heroes, who don’t have to be frontline health workers, or even medically trained, but whose unfailing support to health services is impressive and deserves to be recognised.

Closing date for nominations is October 4 Judges will draw up a shortlist in each category. Winners will be named at a lunch on October 29.
