Punk rockers Green Day may hail from the United States but they’ve clearly got a soft spot for West Yorkshire.
The band have been announced as the Saturday night headliners at this summer’s Leeds Festival.
They are already firm festival favourites, having turned in blistering shows at the event in 2001 and 2004.
And they are being tipped to produce more of the same for revellers at Bramham Park over the August Bank Holiday weekend.
Ian De-Whytell, boss of Leeds-based Crash Records, said: “The news of Green Day headlining will go down very well with Leeds Festival fans.
“It’s almost 10 years since they were on the bill so there will be lots of people getting the opportunity to see them for the first time.”
Other acts announced included Nine Inch Nails, The Lumineers, Editors, Frank Turner, Major Lazer, White Lies, Brand New and Tame Impala.
Former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr will play the festival’s NME/Radio 1 stage on the Sunday night.
Biffy Clyro and Eminem had already been confirmed as Friday and Sunday night main stage headliners respectively.
“It’s a really decent set of headliners – Biffy Clyro are one of the hottest bands around at the moment and Eminem is a living legend,” said Mr De-Whytell.
“I think all three nights are going to be pretty special.”
Weekend festival tickets cost £202.50 while day tickets are £90.
The festival has been held at Bramham Park, near Wetherby, each year since 2003. It was previously staged on the Temple Newsam estate. Click here to register and have your say on the stories and issues that matter to you
