Leeds family jump to safety after flat fire

A Leeds family escaped from their first floor flat through a window after their doorway was engulfed in fire.

Two adults and three children were helped out by a neighbour after the blaze broke out on Francis Street, Chapeltown, Leeds at 2.34am today.

Another disabled neighbour in the flat below theirs also had to helped to get out.

All were taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

Fire crews from Moortown and Gipton put out the fire and the cause is under investigation.

Meanwhile, five cars have been damaged in a fire at a used car dealership.

The blaze at Car Star on Bradford Road, Stanningley, broke out at 2.50am yesterday.

About 20 firefighters from Stanningley and Leeds stations were called to the scene.

They spent two hours putting out the blaze and ensuring it did not spread to nearby cars or buildings.

Fire investigators and the police are looking into the cause.
