A Leeds man has become the first person to be banned from driving during this year’s Christmas drink and drug drive campaign.
John Bradbrook, 29, from Rothwell, Leeds, was disqualified from driving for 18 months when he appeared at Selby Magistrates’ Court.
Bradbrook was arrested on Fenton Lane, Sherburn in Elmet, at around 7.35am on December 1 – the same day the festive crackdown began - after crashing his car into a ditch.
Officers attended the scene after being alerted by a passing motorist and he provided a positive roadside sample of 88 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.
Bradbrook was also fined £400 and ordered to pay £85 costs.
Traffic Sergeant Pete Stringer, of North Yorkshire Police, is co-ordinating this year’s Christmas drink and drug drive police enforcement activity, which forms part of the “95 Alive” York and North Yorkshire Road Safety Partnership campaign.
He said: “The police and the court service do not tolerate drink or drug driving on the roads of North Yorkshire and the City of York. This particular offender has lost his licence within a week of being caught and I hope that sends out a strong message to anyone else who thinks that drink driving is acceptable.”
