A CYCLIST is fighting for life after suffering a serious head injury when he swerved to avoid a football that had bounced into the road in Leeds.

The 57-year-old fell from his bike Leeds and Bradford Road as he past Bramley Park at about 8pm last night. (Sept 27)

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “As he passed the park on his nearside, a football, from a game being played in the park around 50 metres away, bounced into the road.

“It is believed the cyclist fell from his bike while trying to avoid the ball.”

He was taken to Leeds General Infirmary with serious head injures and following surgery is in a critical but stable condition this morning.

A section of the roads was closed for about 90 minutes while emergency services dealt with the incident.

Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to call PC Lisa Gibson at the eastern area roads policing unit based at Killingbeck Police Station via 101.
