Leeds couple star in TV birth show

LITTLE MIRACLE: Heather and Daniel Greig with their daughter Eivissa at home in Pudsey.

LITTLE MIRACLE: Heather and Daniel Greig with their daughter Eivissa at home in Pudsey.

A Leeds couple, who defied the doctors after it was thought they could never have children, are set to feature on national TV next week.

After five years without a menstrual cycle, Heather Francesca Greig was told she probably couldn’t have children with husband Daniel, but on September 17 2011 Eivissa Cali Greig was born.

The Pudsey couple’s story will feature in next week’s episode of Channel 4’s award-winning documentary One Born Every Minute.

The programme, filmed at Leeds General Infirmary for the first time last year, follows mums-to-be from when they arrive to the moment their babies are born.

Daniel, 29, said: “When we found out Heather was pregnant there were a lot of tears, it was every emotion into one and we both wanted a girl.

“When we found out we were having a girl it was incredible – I was just balling my eyes out.”

Heather, who was the first person to give birth in LGI’s part Channel 4-funded birthing pool, made a bikini and sarong to give birth in, did full make-up and wore heels on the day in what she called ‘glabour’ or glamorous labour.

The 28-year-old said: “I knew I would have a water birth so I knew there would be no bed shots.

“I was seeing it like my wedding day or something, so compared to the other women on the programme I think I got off pretty lightly. There were just fixed cameras in the room so I just kind of forgot about it.”

The pair, who have been married for 10 years and run the Daniel Francesca fashion brand, claim positive thinking helped Heather to give birth on her due date without sickness, pain or gas and air.

She said: “You see all these women just moaning and it is an amazing thing and you should treasure it. I thought ‘I’m never going to moan because I have been given this miracle’.”

Daniel added that other episode highlights include him being given gas and air during the birth.

The episode airs on Wednesday from 9pm.

This sounds painful: "I was just balling my eyes out.” I think the word you are looking for is "bawling"
