A bank worker who is the brains behind two projects to inspire Leeds youngsters has scooped a top award.
Charity champion Tracey Jennings has been named a Volunteering Star by her colleagues at Yorkshire Bank for her dedication to helping out in the community.
And it’s not the first time the selfless staff member has been recognised.
The Pudsey mum-of-two has already won several accolades in recognition of her volunteering efforts, including Employee Volunteer of the Year at Yorkshire and the Humber’s Business in the Community Awards.
Tracey, a customer service officer for the bank in Leeds, has been involved in the company’s volunteering scheme for three years.
She runs two Business in the Community schemes, Career Kids and Culture Kids, which involve going into schools and providing workshops which give youngsters an insight into the banking profession.
The projects aim to inspire pupils and help them understand different roles in banks through fun activities such as cashier role plays and games.
The 41-year-old also devotes hours each month to planning charity events, as well as arranging for other team members at Yorkshire Bank on Merrion Way to visit schools.
She said: “I love being involved in the volunteering initiative and think it’s great that Yorkshire Bank encourages us all to give something back.
“Taking a group of children and watching them develop and overcome their own barriers gives me a tremendous amount of personal satisfaction.”
The Yorkshire Bank Volunteering Report reveals 40 per cent of Leeds residents plan to volunteer over the next month.
Of those, more than 90,000 said they were inspired by the Olympics Games Makers, highlighting the lasting impact of unsung heroes who helped to make London 2012 happen.
Jacqui Atkinson, community affairs manager at Yorkshire Bank, said: “Tracey is a fantastic example of someone who has really gone above and beyond to support her local community.”
She added: “This research really shows how generous people from Leeds are with their time and we’re hoping the number of volunteers will keep rising so we can continue to make a difference to the community.”
