Leeds college lecturers in walkout over pay dispute
Leeds lecturers staged a walkout yesterday in the latest round of a long-running row over pay.
Staff at Leeds College of Art and Design are protesting over what they say is a failure by their bosses to honour a pay deal agreed more than five years ago.
More than 70 lecturers – around half the teaching staff at the college –were on the picket lines outside the college's two main sites on Blenheim Walk and Vernon Street from 8am.
The college said it was "disappointed" with the union's stance and a spokeswoman said: "The College is disappointed that UCU are calling staff out on industrial action again, not least because of the impact that this will have on our students at the beginning of a new academic year.
"Our understanding of the agreement which is the cause of the dispute is very different to the UCU's, and we are working with our representative body the Association of Colleges to clarify this misunderstanding.
"We value all our staff and the great work that they do for the College and it is our aim to provide continued stability of employment.
"The majority of our staff will be working normally."
