Leeds City railway station: Entrance plans approved
Plans for a new £15m southern entrance to Leeds City railway station have been approved – despite a councillor's fears it will be no more than a white elephant.
A new deck will be built over the River Aire allowing the distinctive entrance to be built between Granary Wharf and the Blue apartment block.

Escalators and lifts will take passengers up to the station's western bridge and provide access to all platforms.
The scheme, which if Department for Transport funding is confirmed could be under way by 2012, is expected to ease pedestrian congestion at the station's current entrances and improve access to the Holbeck
Urban Village, a key regeneration area.
The council's city centre plans panel voted 4-2 with one abstention to approve the application submitted by Network Rail.
While accepting the principle of the entrance, some panel members argued it was being developed in the wrong place. Coun James Monaghan (Lib Dem, Headingley) said: "This is a 15m white elephant."
