Firefighters had to cut the roof off a car in Leeds city centre after the driver was left trapped following a crash.

The man, thought to be in his 60s, was in a Nissan Micra that was involved in a collision with a Mercedes car on Lady Lane at about 1pm today.

His vehicle was left wedged between the other car and railings.

Police closed the road, off Vicar Lane, as a crew from Leeds fire station took the roof off and took him out on a long board.

The man was taken to hospital by ambulance following the incident.

His injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

No-one else was injured and the road was reopened after about an hour.

West Yorkshire Police’s roads policing unit posted a picture on Twitter of the car after the rescue.
