A chief executive was arrested and only released when a £500 bail is reached- but it was all in the aid of a good cause!
Kerry Jackson, chief executive of St Gemma’s Hospice, along with 10 others, was caged when she took part in this year’s Jail & Bail fundraiser.
The group were arrested by real Police officers and then escorted to Leeds Town Hall to face a mock trial.
Mrs Jackson was nominated by her colleagues, friends and family to take part. She was singled out to stop her indulging in her hobby of Irish dancing.
The annual event for the hospice features local business men and women being banged up for crimes including appalling taste in music and not making the tea in the office.
The group were then found guilty by a judge and taken down to the old Victorian cells.
Mrs Jackson’s children, Aoife, 15, and Cal, 14, said: “Pure horror is the only way we can describe it – watching Mum jump up every time Irish music is played.”
The fundraiser said today: “It was great fun and it was really good to have so many people from the local community involved and engaging.
“The most unnerving thing to happen was when the judge said ‘send them down’!
“There was a moment when we were all put in the cells, which were very cold and have not been used for at least 100 years, that I thought that maybe they were just going to leave us down there!”
She has managed to raise £3,000 for the hospice and the grand total is reportedly near £12,000.
St Gemma’s Hospice, in Moortown, Leeds, provides specialist medical and nursing care for local people with life threatening illnesses and support for their families.
