A Leeds cheerleading team is jumping for joy after qualifying for a world championship competition.
Pudsey-based Genesis Cheer battled it out in the British Cheerleading Association competition last week to win a coveted place at the Cheerleading World Championships in Orlando, Florida.
But the team is now in a race against time to raise the £30,000 needed for costumes, flights and accommodation.
The group is now looking for local businesses to sponsor them to help them make it to the competition, which will be held in April 2015.
Coach Tori Bould helped set up the group just one a year ago.
She said: “To have achieved this in our first season is crazy.
“You never expect it at all.”
Speaking about the sponsorship, Tori added: “We will get a £3,000 cash contribution towards the trip but it will cost us £30,000.
“There’s 24 people going to Florida – and that’s just the team.
“We want to get them new kit too but it all gets very expensive.”
The team, which is made of youngsters aged over 14 years old, trains at Gym Magic at the Grangefield Industrial Estate in Pudsey.
Team members travel from as far as Bournemouth and South Wales for the training sessions in Leeds, which are held every fortnight.
Tori added: “Our coaches do not make a profit from running Genesis Cheer and purposely keep running costs low so that as many people as possible can get involved.
“Every penny paid in membership fees is reinvested in paying for training venues, uniforms, travel and competition entry.”
