Our campaign will culminate in our Wear it Yellow Day on July 3, where we ask organisations to sign up and individuals who wear yellow on the day to donate £1 to the YAA.

The Tour de France-inspired fundraising challenge will see participants sign up to ride 30-minute slots on one of three static bikes set up at Napoleons Casino and Restaurant, in Kirkstall Road, Leeds, on the first day of the Grand Depart this summer.

British Superbikes hopeful Ben Neary will join staff and visitors in donning the colour yellow and saddling up for the challenge, which will mark stage one of Le Tour from Leeds to Harrogate on Saturday July 5 from noon to 9pm.

The fundraiser comes as we encourage readers to send in their pictures and stories of them embracing the yellow theme of the Tour de France through our multimedia #yellowyorkshire campaign.

General manager at Napoleons, Sandy Kopec, said: “We’re really excited about the Tour de France coming to Leeds and we thought the cyclathon would be a great way to get into the spirit of things, whilst raising money for a fantastic cause.

“It’s already shaping up to be a fantastic day.

“We have an outdoor gazebo, goody bags for all participants, well-known faces taking part - including rising local superbike star Ben Neary - and all the staff are going yellow for the day.”

She said that Xercise4Less, based in Kirkstall, has supplied the static bikes and will also donate the cost of a month’s membership to YAA for every person that signs up as a gym member on the day. We’re encouraging businesses, schools and residents to get involved in #yellowyorkshire, whether it be through a colourful Tour-themed bake off, by sending in pictures of their yellow gardens or even dressing up in a bright yellow outfit and telling us about it.
