Leeds boy’s a joke champion
Celebrities Dick and Dom with Jeremy Windridge-France.
Joker Jeremy Windridge-France is the funniest child in the country – and that’s official.
The six-year-old has won TOXIC magazine’s The Big Joke award.
He was crowned Britain’s Best Young Joker after he was picked by television comedy duo Dick and Dom.
The competition began in July when Jeremy uploaded a video of himself telling his favourite joke to the magazine’s website.
Entries were then judged on joke telling skills, use of funny voices, costume and, of course, the punch line.
Jeremy and his family, including brother and sister Archie and Scarlett, were invited to London, for a day full of fun and jokes.
He received £100 in Hamleys toy store vouchers, and spent the afternoon with his idols Dick and Dom, coming up with new quips and gags.
He said: “The best thing about winning the competition was getting to see Dick and Dom, helping to pick the best jokes was fun too!”
The Leeds lad, who lives in Horsforth, will feature in TOXIC magazine’s January 2012 issue having helped to create the jokes page. Jeremy’s dad, Pete, who recently swam the English Channel to raise money for Penny Field School, was also on hand at the day out in London, along with mum Sarah-Jayne.
He said: “Jeremy hasn’t stopped bouncing around with excitement.
“I have a feeling the whole family will be talking about this day for years to come.”
Dick and Dom, who starred in CBBC’s Dick and Dom in da Bugalow from 2002 to 2006, said: “We chose Jeremy because he had the best delivery.
“He dressed up for the moment in his whistle and flute [suit], his sister as a grumpy fairy and gave the joke real confidence, gusto and aplomb!
“He stood out right away – a good lad!”
JEREMY’S JOKES:
Q: What do you call two naughty robbers?
A: A pair of knickers!
Q: What’s red and sits in a corner?
