Leeds and Bradford Airport: BA aims to smooth way for travellers to London

BA says the move from Terminal 1 to 5 will see connection times for onward flights reduced.

BA says the move from Terminal 1 to 5 will see connection times for onward flights reduced.

Passengers flying from Leeds Bradford Airport to London will be able to transfer more quickly to onward flights after British Airways announced it was moving the service to Heathrow’s Terminal 5.

British Airways (BA) also revealed it was cutting to the number of daily flights to London from Leeds Bradford from four to three by merging the current lunchtime and early afternoon flights.

The airline believes the changes will deliver overall benefits to passengers through quicker and smoother connections to onward flights. BA flies to more than 100 cities worldwide from Terminal 5.

The service to the capital began last month and currently operates to Terminal 1 with connection times of 90 minutes. The move to Terminal 5 from the beginning of the summer season in March will cut connection times to onward BA flights to a minimum of an hour.

BA spokesman Jim Keegan said: “We often take the opportunity to change flight frequencies and timings at the season boundaries and we are delighted that we are able to move the Leeds Bradford flights to T5 next summer, just three months after the route launch.

“It means our Yorkshire customers can enjoy a quick and seamless journey through our dedicated terminal at Heathrow.”

Tony Hallwood, Leeds Bradford Airport’s Marketing Director, said: “British Airways decision to transfer Leeds Bradford services into T5 will help to transform the worldwide travel plans of Yorkshire’s regional businesses and leisure travellers.

“With a wide choice of connecting destinations now on offer from Heathrow there has never been a better time to fly locally from Yorkshire’s gateway airport.

“Leeds Bradford’s new direct connection into Terminal 5 will now offer reduced transfer time of just 60 minutes and provide even quicker and easier access to British Airways’ worldwide network.”

The new daily departure times from Leeds Bradford to Heathrow, beginning on March 31, will be 9.30am, 3.05pm and 9.15pm - apart from Tuesday when the first flight will be 10.05am.

Flights back will run at 7.55am, 12.35pm and 7.30pm.
