Leeds ambulance staff rescued in Lake District
SIX ambulance staff from Yorkshire had to be rescued after getting into difficulties while hiking in the Lake District.
The workers were on a staff outing and tackling a demanding walk known as the Kentmere Horseshoe when they became disorientated in poor weather conditions.
They are reported to have called colleagues at the Wakefield-based Yorkshire Ambulance Service to raise the alarm before their mobile phones lost their signals.
Mountain rescue teams from Patterdale, Penrith, Kendal and Langdale/Ambleside were then sent out to track them down.
An RAF helicopter was on its way to join the search when the hikers were found.
Tuesday's ill-fated outing had been organised by ambulance staff working in Leeds.
