Leeds air cadets serve afternoon tea for older community

TEA IS SERVED: The spread laid on at St Jamess in Pudsey.

Air cadets held their annual senior citizen’s tea party and entertained more than 50 older people for free.

The 2387 (Pudsey) Squadron Air Cadets held their annual event at St James’ the Great Church, in Pudsey.

Their tea party has been held for the past 25 years and forms part of their community work.

The church members were entertained with a range of activities as well as sitting down to afternoon tea, which is served and provided for free as a community gift from the cadets.

Each year the cadets have planned different activities to entertain their guests and gave a presentation of their successes during 2012, which included taking part in a community project funded by the lottery called ‘Sense of Belonging’. The project allowed young people to meet over eight weeks and discuss their up bringing, views of the world and discuss their differences with older folk.

Flight Lieutenant Jon Gardham the Officer Commanding Pudsey Air Cadets said: “The project allowed older and young people to find out what life is like for different generations. It has really showed the community spirit here.”

The event was attended by over 50 senior citizens and hosted by 15 cadets with the food kindly donated by the cadets themselves and two kind donations from Asda Owlcoates and Greggs PLC.
