Leeds: 15,000 items of clothing for the homeless stolen from charity

Thousands of homeless people across Britain could be left vulnerable this winter after £11,000 of clothing was stolen from a charity in Leeds.

Burglars took 15,000 items being stored in a warehouse by the St Vincent de Paul Society in East End Park.

The haul – for distribution to people living on the streets across the country – included packs of thermal socks, gloves and hats.

Matt Campbell, director for community projects, said: “I’m pretty furious, to put it mildly. The people we are serving are some of the most vulnerable you could meet.”

Anyone with information should contact Burmantofts and Richmond Hill Neighbourhood Policing Team via 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

To make a suggested donation of £3 to help the charity replace the stock, send a cheque made payable to ‘St Jude’s Furniture Store’ to: St Jude’s Furniture Store, Marshall St, Holbeck, Leeds, LS11 9EH.
