Time is running out for you to boost your favourite watering holes’ chances of being named the best in the city.
So far thousands of votes have been cast as staff, punters and landlords try to ensure that top pubs and bars in the city are in with a chance of being crowned the winner of the Yorkshire Evening Post’s Leeds Best Bar Competition 2014.
With our esteemed competition’s grand final well underway, venues on our shortlist of 18 contenders – compiled after the last round of YEP reader votes were counted – are just days away from learning which one will take to the top prize on March 3.
Last year’s winner The Golden Lion, in Pudsey, is once again on our grand final shortlist along with popular bars based all over the area including The Halfway House, in Morley, and The Wheatsheaf Inn, in Sherburn-in-Elmet.
Sean Greenish, regional promotions manager at the YEP, said: “This is your last chance to make sure your favourite publicans get the recognition they deserve.
“Leeds’ hard-working pub and bar workers are often unfairly overlooked, so why not give the city’s most deserving traders a boost and give them a chance to take our coveted prize home.”
Readers can vote for venues by text message or by mailing coupons, which will appear in the newspaper each day until Saturday, to our offices.
All votes must be cast by February 24 at 12noon, before the winner is crowned Leeds’ best bar in the Yorkshire Evening Post on Monday March 3.
Mr Greenish added: “We have been absolutely inundated with votes since the Leeds Best Bar grand final got underway earlier this year, and there isn’t much to choose from between the most popular venues.
“We’d like to say thank you to everyone who has voted so far as every single one counts. Your vote could be the difference between your favourite bar being crowned the best in Leeds or not, so make sure you don’t miss our deadline.”
Our other finalists include The Jug and Barrel, in Stanningley, The New Highwood, in Roundhay, The Crown, in Monk Fryston, The Dexter, in Shadwell, and Hyde Park’s Royal Park Hotel and Hyde Park pub.
The Swan Hotel, in North Aberford, The New Travellers Rest, in Cross Gates, The Chequers Inn, in Ledsham, The Plough Inn, in Burton Salmon, Veritas Ale & Wine Bar, in Great George Street, The Picture House, in Merrion Street, Tyke Bar at Gateway North, in Leeds, The Ship Inn, in Briggate, and The Parnaby Tavern, in Hunslet, are also in the running.
