More than 18,000 miniature knitted jerseys are being woven together to create Tour de France bunting with a difference.

Harrogate Borough Council has been overwhelmed by support after it received nearly seven times more jerseys than they appealed for last year.

The cycling-themed creations are being painstakingly attached to cords to create knitted bunting that will decorate prominent parts of Harrogate District from the end of May up until September.

Sue Wood, a member of the council’s parks team who is working on the bunting, said: “Everybody’s been getting involved. Lots of Yorkshire expats have seen the knitting patterns online and just wanted to do their bit for Yorkshire.”

Jerseys have been sent in from as far afield as Bermuda, Canada and China. Visit www.harrogate.gov.uk/letourdebunting.
