Kirklees drug dealers face a grand s-Lam

A SEIZED Lamborghini supercar will form the centrepiece of Kirklees police's Tackling Drugs Week events.

From Monday the sports car, seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act, will be on display in Dewsbury and Huddersfield town centres alongside an information display about the fight against drugs.

A seminar at Dewsbury Town Hall, starting at 6.30pm on Monday, will explore approaches to tackling drugs in Kirklees.

Through the week, neighbourhood police will be working in schools to raise awareness of drugs and drug- related issues. Users will also be offered help to find the support and treatment they need to get rid of their habit.

Mohammed Sidat of the Kirklees Drugs Intervention Programme, will be a speaker at the seminar.

He said: "This will be a question-time event for people to hear from key speakers and professionals.

"It will give people the opportunity to ask what the criminal justice system is doing to tackle the issues and the agencies will be able to find out from the public what can be done to improve."

Throughout Tackling Drugs Week, which is a national event, drug squad officers will raid the homes of suspected offenders across Kirklees.

Detective Chief Inspector Dave Knopwood said: "Crimes like burglary or theft often have ties to drugs and have a big impact on communities.

"We will recover any controlled drugs, stolen property or cash believed to be from the proceeds of crime. We can identify individuals and use legislation to seize their assets if we suspect they have not been obtained lawfully."
