Jimi Heselden: Call for memorial to Segway tycoon
Tragic businessman Jimi Heselden should be honoured with a permanent memorial in his home city of Leeds, council bosses said today.
City council leader Keith Wakefield and chief executive Tom Riordan say the self-made millionaire and philanthropist was a "visionary" and "one in a million".

They have called for the permanent tribute to the much-loved entrepreneur who died in a freak accident.

In a letter to the YEP Coun Wakefield and Mr Riordan said: "Jimi Heselden was a truly great man and his death was a tragic loss to his family, the city of Leeds and to the wider world.

"On behalf of Leeds City Council, we want to express our deep sorrow and regret.

"We would also like to propose that the council recognises Jimi's life and work with a permanent memorial, which would of course, be in keeping with the family's wishes.
"Jimi was a visionary, who made Leeds a better place and who really put his money where his mouth and heart was. He was one in a million."
Mr Heselden, 62, died when his Segway personal transporter plunged 40 feet into the River Wharfe near his home in Boston Spa on September 26.
