Ian Doubtfire, managing director of Jet2.com, said: "Our cabin crew are central to our business and play a hugely important role when it comes to the leading customer service that we pride ourselves in offering. It is fantastic to see these new recruits receiving their wings.

"We are dedicated to playing a positive role in the communities where we are based and this recruitment drive has provided local people of all ages with the opportunity to start their career in the travel

industry.

"We have been overwhelmed by the response that we received and hope to be able to offer a similar scheme on an on-going basis."

Diane Hawkins, one of the successful applicants from the Yorkshire area who will be flying from Leeds Bradford Airport, said: "It can be quite a risk, especially at the moment, to go through training as you have to take time out for the course and you don't know whether it will lead to a job or not.

"But with Jet2.com's guarantee of a fixed-term contract it was a great incentive to just get out there and be trained in a profession."
