Investigation as headteacher at Leeds school is suspended

A head teacher at a top Leeds primary school has been suspended, council bosses have confirmed.

June Turner has been suspended from the role at Beecroft Primary in Eden Way, Kirkstall.

A statement from the school’s governing body which was released by Leeds City Council said that an investigation was now being carried out.

However, it would not comment further on the reasons for the suspension.

Steve Harris, the chairman of governors at Beecroft Primary school, said: “I can confirm that the head teacher of Beecroft Primary, June Turner, has been suspended pending an investigation by the governing body, supported by Leeds City Council.

“Any further comment would be inappropriate at this stage.”

Beecroft Primary School was rated as outstanding - the highest rating possible - when it was inspected by education watchdog Ofsted in 2010.

The inspectors’ letter to pupils at the time said Beecroft “really is a special place.” The school’s website adds: “It is special because there is a real partnership between teachers, pupils and parents.”
