Ex-Leeds United star Danny Mills has been forced to pull out of a gruelling charity challenge after suffering a bout of gastroenteritis.
Danny had been training for months for the Archie Mills Memorial Challenge this weekend, which was set to see him cycle from Leeds to London and then complete the London Triathlon.
The former Whites defender, who played more than 100 games for the Elland Road outfit, issued a statement that said: “I know so many people have worked incredibly hard to make this happen and I feel so bad for letting them down.
“Nobody can feel as bad as I do right now. Six months gruelling training and no end result. Anyone that knows me well will know it’s my worst nightmare. But after losing over half a stone in two days, attempting the challenge would be more than foolish.”
Danny offered to refund any donations to charity Shine made in anticipation of the challenge, but pledged to complete a revised version once he was back to full fitness.
None of the funds donated will be used by the charity until Danny has completed his new challenge.
