I Love West Leeds Festival 2010: Amazing attractions promised

Where can you meet a Scottish giant and his mischievous mutt, go on a space hopper ride and see spellbinding aerial acrobatics from Africa?

Right here in Leeds of course!

These and dozens of other amazing attractions are part of the fun-packed menu for the 2010 I Love West Leeds Festival.

Now in its fifth year, the three-week-long showcase of creativity has become the eclectic highlight of the city's events calendar.

Highlights include nine-foot tall Scotsman Big Rory and his dog Oochie, who will be making a big impression at the I Love West Leeds main festival day this Sunday at Farnley Hall Park.

The gigantic jock and his naughty pet will be wreaking hilarious havoc with visitors as they take a tour of the park.

"Don't stand too close to Oochie unless you want a soggy surprise!" is the warning from organisers.

Performances from the talented Black Eagles acrobatic troupe also promise to delight visitors.

Originally from Tanzania, east Africa, the team learnt their acrobatic skills on the streets of Dar-es-Salaam.

They have already appeared at the Womad and Glastonbury music festivals, the Royal Albert Hall and on Blue Peter.

Jane Earnshaw, director of I Love West Leeds, said the 2010 event was as varied as ever, and she is hoping the recent good weather will continue for the festival period.

"It makes such a difference if the sun is shining, as most of the events are outdoors," Miss Earnshaw said.

"Festival Day promises to be as good as ever with headline acts to keep the visitors entertained and of course our favourite festival regular – Shedopolis, 15 garden sheds like you've never seen before including a story shed and a disco shed."

Other attractions running throughout July include a mini disco, a tea tent, a hippo hunt, space hopper races, a 120ft inflatable obstacle trail and a lamppost gallery of photos on the main streets of Armley, Bramley, Pudsey, Rodley and Farsley,

The festival – funded by Leeds City Council's West Leeds Area Committees and Arts Council England – runs from July 3 to 25. Festival

Day is this Sunday from 1pm to 5pm at Farnley Hall Park.
