Husband sends same Valentine’s Day card for 34th year in a row

SELF-CONFESSED romantic Ken Myers will hand over a Valentine’s Day card to his wife today – for the 34th year in a row.

Ken Myers, 71, of Moortown, Leeds, began his unique way of saying ‘I love you’ back in 1979, the year after marrying his sweetheart Valerie.

Each year since then, the novelist has written a new cryptic message on the inside of the card, which is now full of scribblings from the past three decades.

Ken, who has written many crime and romance novels, even created the card himself – as he used to work as a card designer in the 1970s.

The card, which reads “Happy Valentine’s Day to my Wife”, shows a boy offering his beloved a heart tied to a catapult.

He said: “I sent the card to Valerie in 1979, and then again in 1980. After that, I just carried on because it was a novelty.

“I like to think I’m a romantic husband. I am a member of the Romantic Novelists Association, so I’m a qualified romantic.

“I think Valerie would be disappointed if I came back one year with a different card. It’s become a family heirloom.”
