Hunt for property where Leeds Stanningley Bypass couple died
Police on hands and knees carried out a fingertip search of grassland alongside one of Leeds’s busiest roads.
They were looking for property belonging to a pensioner killed with his wife in a two car smash on New Year’s Day.
The officers were looking for a personal item belonging to 68-year-old Mr David Metcalf who was killed with his wife Dorothy,65, when their Fiat Punto was involved in a collision with a Volvo C70 car on the Leeds bound carriageway of the Stanningley Bypass near the Swinnow flyover about 11am on January 1.
Officers searched a grass bank where the tragedy occurred after the it was discovered the item believed to be with Mr Metcalf was not found after the crash.
Eduard Mereohra, 26, of Burley, Leeds, appeared at Leeds Magistrates Court charged with causing death by dangerous driving and was remanded in custody.
