I am currently researching my family history.

I am looking for a William Taylor born 1830/1 in Calverley or Horsforth.

He married a mary Ann Drake in 1857 in Leeds. Williams father was Robert Taylor on the certificate I have William on the 1861,1871,& 1881 census returns but can't find him on earlier census' wondered if anyone out there could help,as I live in Western Australia.

I cannot make enquiries in person. I was actually born in Wakefield.

I am currently researching my family history.

My parents moved to Horsforth from Slough via Abergavenny due to my father's job with Coopers Mechanical Joints. He became the sales representative for the northern half of the company and was based in Leeds. They lived at 18 Victoria Mount, Horsforth.

My older sister, Elaine, was born in January 1954 in the Fair Gables Maternity Home in Florence Road, Horsforth.

My parents are both now deceased, but going through family letters, etc. they were very good friends with Charlie and Nancy Martin, who they thought of as second parents - in fact I have a letter from them to my parents, where they sign themselves as "Dad & Mum up north".

I also have a lovely letter from Mr. Martin speaking very movingly of losing his wife, Nancy, in March 1962.

Do any members of the Martin family still live in Horsforth?

Also, I would be very interested to know if No. 18 Victoria Mount still exists. I am trying to get photos of all addresses linked to my family through the years - sadly, many have since been demolished, but I'm

remaining hopeful.

If anyone has any information at all, I would be very grateful.

I am writing on behalf of an elderly gentleman, James Swailes, and his sister, Mollie, who live in Napier, New Zealand.

They emigrated to this country in 1928 with their parents Asa and Florence (Welburn) Swailes. An uncle Ernest Swailes emigrated in 1920 and set up a printing business. Asa joined his brother on arrival.

In 1944, when in the air force, James visited Horsforth and met with his Welburn aunts and uncle, the children of Joseph Welburn and Mary Rhodes who married in 1887, Wharfedale.

(Mary was the daughter of Joseph & Rachel Rhodes who, in 1881, lived at Low Back Lane, Horsforth.)

These Welburn relatives, living at 52 Rose Terrace, Horsforth, were:

Aunt Louise - poss born 1887 (Louisa ?)

Aunt Annie - poss born 1889 (Mabel Annie ?)

Aunt Edith- poss born 1894 (Edith Mary ?)

Uncle Harry- (? )

A second uncle, Arthur Welburn, was not at home.

James Swailes' grandparents:

Joseph Swailes (stonemason) and Mary Isabel Marshall, married 1882, Horsforth. Resided at Lister Hill when Asa born 29.12.1889 and registered.

Family: (James unable to provide complete family details):

Joseph Marshall- b 1884

Asa - b 1889 – died 1966, Napier, NZ

James - b 1895 – died 6.6.1915, Turkey, WWI

Hugh - b 1892

Ernest - b 1897 – died 1945, Napier, NZ

Mary - b 1901

With James and Mollie leaving the UK at such an early age they have limited Horsforth family information hence the interest in contacting any living relatives.

I do hope you are able to help with this request and look forward to receiving any information for James.

I'd be interested in contacting any descendants of Woollen Cloth Manufacturer, Joseph Bentley and his wife, Mary Horn, or other Bentley descendants from Horsforth.

Joseph was born about 1788. He married Mary Horn in 1806 and I know they had at least 1 son, Thomas, born 1814.

He was my great great grandfather who left Horsforth and came to Liverpool. They also had a daughter Sarah and at the time of the 1841 census were living in Outwood Lane.

My aim is to share family history info.

I know my wife's grandfather Thomas Pickard was in the team that won the trophy in 1906 as we have an engraved winners tankard with his name and date on it.

Thomas was born in 1871 son of John and Ann(?) Pickard and lived in Horsforth until he and his wife moved to Preston late 1911, Thomas to become the chief stone mason on the building of Penwortham bridge over the Ribble.

The building firm was J Bentley & Co of Bradford.

Thomas married Emma Haslam in 1910 and had a son Raymond in 1911 in Horsforth.

Would anyone be able to help in identifying Thomas in the picture?

My wife would like to hang the picture in full view but it would drive her mad not knowing which of the fine Edwardian gentlemen is Thomas!

Hopefully someone may have the same picture with the names of all the team members.

I'm trying to find more about Henry Taylor, 2nd Great Grandfather of my wife.

He is listed in the 1851 Census as being a grocer and draper and lived at Garden Place, Town Street, Horsforth.

His wife was Sarah, and children were, Maria, nine, and William, eight.

Also in the home were William Taylor 63, a Woodman, and his wife Ellen 61. They were parents of Henry.

Any information or help would be very much appreciated and valued.

I hope you can help me track my ancestors down, they like me lived in Horsforth but I have difficulty finding anything about them prior to 1871.

My family according to the 1871 census lived at 117 Carr Bridge Street, Horsforth - I believe somewhere near Batchelor Lane, Horsforth.

Names are John Todd (b1816), Sarah Todd (b.1819), Eliza Todd (b.1859) & Samuel Todd (b.1862).

No matter what source I use, the Todds never seem to have made it!

Samuel Todd my Great-grandfather in 1901 lived at 12 Batchelor Lane with Hannah Todd his wife, and Annie Todd (b.1889), William Todd (b.1893), Alfred Todd (b.1895) & Cuthbert Todd (b. 1897) - my grandfather.

Both William & Alfred emigrated prior to WW1 some say to avoid the war in which my Grandfather fought.

If you have any information I would be extremely grateful.
