Heroes out of hiding and into focus at church show

A LEEDS church is inviting people to join in a celebration of hidden heroes.

Gateway Church at Woodhouse is hosting a photography exhibition, Local Heroes, Local Landscapes, featuring the often unsung people who serve local communities.

The exhibition takes place at St Mark’s Church, St Mark’s Road from 12.30pm to 8.30pm today, with a free barbecue served from 6pm.

The exhibition forms part of a week-long festival culminating in a community fun day on Saturday at Quarry Mount Primary School.

That event will include live music, a bouncy castle, face painting and other challenges as well as a ‘family Olympics’ and on-site ice cream van.

The events are part of the Hope 08 initiative, in which churches work together to demonstrate Christian faith in action and to explain the meaning of that faith throughout the country.

Earlier this year Gateway Church bought St Mark’s Church in Woodhouse and money is being raised to renovate the building, which will include community spaces, areas for youth clubs and a mums and toddler group.
