The children entered the competition with their idea of how to enhance an outside space.
The children's ideas focussed on making the areas accessible for all and included suggestions of Braille signs, bright colour codes for visually impaired children as well as interactive whiteboards.
"The Design My Learning Space competition has been created to encourage pupils to take an active and positive role in creating their own environment in which to learn," explained David Hughes, marketing manager at EC Harris. "The judges were extremely impressed by the quality of all the entries and the commitment to the project shown by pupils and teachers alike and we were delighted to award Shire Oak Primary with the 500 book tokens."
The Design My Learning Space competition attracted over 130 entries from years five to eight across the North of England and gave the schools an opportunity to play an active role in designing their own learning space and explaining how this would impact on achieving better learning outcomes.
