Headingley Carnegie: Tag festival 2009 highlights
Hundreds of young rugby players from across the country gathered at Headingley Carnegie Stadium in Leeds to show off their nifty footwork and ball handling skills.
They were taking part in the National Disability Tag Rugby Festival, organised by the city council's sports development unit and
supported by the Rugby Football Union and Rugby Football League.
A total of 30 teams took part in the event aimed at youngsters with a learning disability or moderate physical or sensory impairment.
Councillor John Procter, the council's executive member for leisure, said: "It is great to see all these children getting involved in such a great sport.
"The game is a great way of keeping fit and healthy and this festival is a fantastic way to ensure that sport is accessible to everyone"
Tag Rugby uses a minimal contact version of rugby, excluding scrums, line-outs or conventional tackling.
Tackles are made by removing one of the tags attached to each player's belt.
