Mrs Broadbent was cared for at Leeds's Sue Ryder Care Wheatfields hospice in the last days of her life.
Art Liberating Lives is held to reflect the importance of art as therapy in Sue Ryder Care's hospices and care centres.
It is also a vital fundraiser for the charity, with organisers hoping
to raise more than 50,000 from this year's event. Each year, Sue Ryder must collect 13m in donations to support the work of its centres.
Under the theme of 'liberation', Tony turned this year's wet summer to his advantage, heading outdoors to paint in the rain.
He explained: "I remembered my mother dying at Wheatfields hospice, the care she was given, the burden upon my shoulders and knowing she would soon be gone, I painted knowing that this 'Liberation' of feeling, the tears, the rain, was cathartic."
Art Liberating Lives challenges the charity's residents and supporters to create art that they feel is worthy of a top London gallery.
Exhibition
Selected supporter artworks will be shown in a special exhibition at London's prestigious Mall Galleries alongside work produced by Sue Ryder Care residents.
Artists whose pieces are selected and sold at the Mall Galleries will keep 55 per cent of the proceeds, with the rest going to Sue Ryder.
Tony, from Farsley, said his taking part was a way to thank staff at Wheatfields for the way they cared for his loved one.
He said that Art Liberating Lives helps some people cope with their problems, as well as raising the profile of Sue Ryder work.
"I think the benefits of art therapy may be underestimated. It gives hope a voice and a visual representation," Tony added.
Victoria Glover, head of events at Sue Ryder Care, said: "Last year we had a wonderful array of artwork including paintings, drawings, collages and sculptures, and we are hoping that many more people will take part this year to express what they feel Liberation stands for in their life."
