Haunted Leeds tackle Thackray Medical Museum
Haunted Leeds is back with a Hallowe'en special.
The team that investigated such scary locations such as the Temple Newsam cellars and the Victorian Prison Cells of Leeds Town Hall have carried out a special Hallowe'en investigation at one of the scariest venues yet.
The new episode and all the other investigations are online now at www.hauntedleeds.co.uk.
Medium Barrie John, of UK Living's Most Haunted fame, YEP reporter Debbie Leigh, YEP commercial manager Nicola Atkinson and paranormal investigator Lynne Robinson have gone into the Thackray Medical Museum after dark to investigate the numerous ghostly sightings reported in the imposing Victorian Building. Originally opened in 1861 as the Leeds Union Workhouse to accommodate 800 papers, it was grimness personified.
It was once hit by a typhus epidemic that killed many people. The building was expanded over the next 50 years and went on to become part of St James's hospital in 1944. In 1997 it was transformed into the Thackray Medical Museum.
Several ghostly figures have been spotted in various parts of the museum, which includes a real life Victorian Street complete with sounds and smells, and an operating theatre. There have also been reports of sounds of children laughing and adult footsteps
To cap it off, among the exhibits is the skeleton of Mary Bateman, the Yorkshire Witch who was tried and executed for witchcraft during the early 19th century.
Barrie John told the YEP: "It was an incredibly atmospheric venue and one of the darkest buildings we've been in – not good for someone who's sec-ret is he's scared of the dark!"
Series producer Geoff Fox said: "Make sure you're not alone in the house when you're watching this – it's one of the spookiest yet."
