The children's play area at Grove Road Park was removed some years ago after falling victim to vandalism. Proposals to build a replacement have been in the pipeline for sometime, and in November Councillor Bill Hyde appealed to local residents to support the scheme.

The response of the local community has been overwhelmingly positive, allowing the Council to push ahead with plans to rebuild the playground for a new generation of youngsters.

Councillor Bill Hyde (Conservative, Temple Newsam) told Cross Gates Today: "Since the old playground was removed from Grove Road Park some time ago there has been a lack of safe, high quality play facilities in the Halton Area. This scheme will help us change that.

It is essential to the viability of the scheme that we have the support of the local community, so I am delighted with the level of support and enthusiasm that local residents have shown. This is the catalyst we needed to drive the project forward.

Through the local Area Committee it has been possible to secure 10,000 of support for the scheme. We are hopeful that we will soon have the outstanding funding in place to bring these plans to fruition and give the children of Halton a first-class play area."
