Bosses at Sue Ryder-Wheatfields Hospice said the “tremendous support” and donations to the YEP’s Half and Half Appeal have helped to grow the hospice.

Helen Ankrett, palliative care services manager at the hospice, said: “It is difficult to put into words how much the support of the Half and Half Appeal has benefited the hospice over the last 32 years, and we continue to be immensely grateful to the YEP and all its readers for their generosity.

“The money raised over the past three decades has been put to extremely good use here at the hospice, with every penny helping to fund the incredible care we provide to patients and their families at the time they need it the most.

“When the Half and Half Appeal first launched, we were only a small, very new hospice. But as with the Half and Half Appeal, we have grown over the last 30 years, and that’s largely due to the tremendous support we receive from the people of Leeds.

“In 2014, we have more facilities and more services available than ever before, with our inpatient unit operating alongside a day therapy unit, outpatients services, bereavement support workers, and a team of exceptional community nurses, who care for people in their own homes.

“We also have a family support team, therapists and complementary therapists, as well as a team of amazing volunteers, who dedicate their time so selflessly to support patients and the care we provide.

“We are continuously striving to improve and extend our services to people across Leeds, ensuring that they are cared for where they want to be, whether that’s at home, in the hospice or through any of our available services.

“We wouldn’t be able to do any of this without the support of the local community and initiatives like the Half and Half Appeal.

“Every donation that we receive really does mean a lot to us.”
