Organisers of the Great Yorkshire Show have announced their biggest ever investment at the Harrogate Showground as they look to replace its out-dated main exhibition hall with a modern facility.

The Yorkshire Agricultural Society’s £10m project is aimed at attracting more start up shows to the venue, as well as televised sporting events.

Built in the 1960s, the existing hall was only intended to stand for 20 years but decades later it hosts 48 events each year, with this year’s Great Yorkshire Show on 8-10 July among them.

Plans for a modern replacement will be submitted to Harrogate Borough Council tomorrow and if successful the new hall is planned to open early summer 2016, with building work starting in 2015.
