Gift for Garforth
Garforth is set to receive an early Christmas present thanks to a £1,300 donation from local councillors to provide a permanent site for a Christmas tree in the town.
Garforth and Swillington Councillors Tom Murray, Mark Dobson and Andrea Murray were delighted that colleagues on the East Outer Area Committee joined them in backing Garforth in Bloom's bid for the funding.
The Area Committee cash will pay for the installation of a tree base, all electrical connections and two sets of lights. Thanks to the kind permission of the landowner the tree will sit near the medical centre on Main Street.
The community will also receive 200 from Proceeds of Crime funds, which will be used to buy a tree for the town. Local councillors intend to use their MICE funds to meet the annual cost of buying a tree from next year.
Councillor Thomas Murray (Lab, Garforth & Swillington) said: "This is a great investment in Garforth. Garforth in Bloom do a fantastic job throughout the year and it is always a pleasure to support their efforts.
"This year we have the added bonus of being able to buy the tree using funds from a Proceeds of Crime application. From next year local councillors will make sure MICE funds are available to buy a tree for the site."
Councillor Mark Dobson (Lab, Garforth & Swillington) added: "I'm delighted my colleagues on the area committee backed our calls to approve this funding. It is great to see this money being invested in Garforth. People in Garforth are quite rightly very proud of where they come from – I hope this tree is an added bonus over the festive period. "
