The widow of a police officer who died when his patrol van crashed while on an emergency call paid an emotional tribute to her husband as a fund was launched to support her two young children.
The North Yorkshire Police Federation yesterday unveiled the fund in memory of PC Andrew Bramma which will be used to provide financial support to his sons, Jack, aged three, and 11-month-old Sam.
PC Bramma, 32, of Pudsey, died after his van hit a tree in West Tanfield, near Ripon, while responding to reports of a road accident on January 5.
His funeral will take place at Pudsey Parish Church on Tuesday.
His widow Kathryn said: “It is a source of comfort and pride for our family regarding the overwhelming support we have received. Andrew has always been a source of pride to the family, a loving husband and father and cherished son and brother. Andrew was everything said of him and more.
“We are deeply hurt by this tragedy but would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their kind words and support. We are hoping to find the strength from these to help us through this difficult time.”
Since PC Bramma’s death, more than 1,000 people have contributed to an online book of condolence on the North Yorkshire force’s website. Offers of support have flooded in from Police Federations across the country as well as the public.
The North Yorkshire Police Federation’s deputy secretary, Sgt Mike Stubbs, said: “Kathryn is now facing the prospect of bringing up Jack and Sam without the emotional, practical or financial support that Andrew would have given her. We cannot replace some of those things but we know she has a close family who will do all they can to support her.”
