THEY are known as the ‘unbeatable’ all conquering football team who haven’t been beaten in two years.
The tireless Year 8 pupils have achieved repeated outstanding success during their first two years in high school.
And the youngsters in the Under 13 squad at Cardinal Heenan Catholic High School in Meanwood, have even bettered last year’s outstanding results.
Their honours this year include: the West Yorkshire FA county cup; the Don Revie Leeds schools cup; the North West league championship; the Leeds league champions cup
and the Merit table champions shield.
Teacher Phil Teggart, who is the team’s football coach, said they had all put in an amazing effort. He said: “They have still to lose to a school from Leeds.
“Over these two years the team have won everything they have been entered into, aside from the National Cup, a notoriously difficult competition to win, especially for a school of our size.
“Last year was a clean sweep of the competitions in West Yorkshire and aside from losing the first game they played, the team went on a 24 match unbeaten run.
“This year has seen them better these fantastic achievements. Alongside these trophies the team also reached the last 32 of the national schools cup - a tournament entered by 707 teams.
“Losing to Chorlton High School, Manchester, was their only defeat of a 22 game season - winning the other 21.”
Last year, in their first season of high school football, the team won: the Leeds schools 5 a-side competition; the West Yorkshire schools 5 a-side tournament; they represented West Yorkshire in the North of England 5-a-side championships; the North West league; the Leeds schools cup; the Leeds league champions cup and the Merit table champions shield.
The team includes: Kai Herbert, Emilo Avila-Gonzalez, Jeffery Agyei, Patrick Dooley, Joseph Hemsworth, Daniel Clement, Darragh Kennedy, Harvey O’Brien, Oliver Casey, Joseph Fitzpatrick, Nathan Brady, Harvie Booth, Tristan Brennan and Kian Herbert, all pictured above.
