A doorstep campaign to turn Yorkshire yellow has been launched ahead of this summer’s Grand Depart.

Cicada Communications, based in Station Parade, Harrogate, hopes to have started a trend by painting its front door yellow as the July 5 and 6 arrival of the Tour de France draws nearer.

Staff at the communications agency, founded in 1987, downed tools to give the building a colourful makeover as the YEP continues its #yellowyorkshire campaign.

We are encouraging readers to send in their pictures and stories of everything from bake-offs and sunflower-filled gardens to fun fancy dress days and fundraisers embracing the yellow theme of Le Tour through our multimedia campaign.

Cicada’s managing director Di Burton said: “This is the 101st Tour de France and as we are located at 101 Station Parade we had to do something special to mark our support for what will be the biggest sporting event to have ever visited Harrogate.

“Painting your front door cycling yellow is a simple and effective way to celebrate the arrival of the Grand Depart and would look fantastic if the entire county got involved.”

Anyone who would like to get involved can email pictures and stories to our Tour de France reporter on jonathan.brown@ypn.co.uk, tweet our @leedsnews Twitter account using the hashtag #yellowyorkshire or post them on our www.facebook.com/yep.newspaper Facebook page.

Our vibrant push to give the region a Tour tinge will culminate in a Yorkshire-wide Wear it Yellow Day in aid of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance (YAA) on Thursday July 3.

We’re encouraging businesses, schools and communities to wear something yellow on the day, with individuals donating £1 each to the lifesaving charity.

The likes of Leeds St James’s Hospital, KPMG Leeds, Leeds Bradford International Airport, Bruntcliffe School, Blacks Solicitors LLP and York Racecourse have already committed to taking part in our landmark fundraising event.

To sign up to take part in Wear it Yellow Day or for further information email info@yaa.org.uk.
