Fire crews were forced to link hoses together forming a pipeline a mile-and-a-half long after they were called to a remote farmhouse on fire.
The incident happened at a farm on the outskirts of Wigglesworth, near Settle, North Yorkshire.
Crews received the call at about 7.20pm yesterday.
Upon arrival, they found a three-storey farmhouse ablaze, it is understood the occupants had already left the building.
A total of 10 engines, some from Lancashire and others from Leeds, Harrogate and Keighley attended the incident, which was still ongoing at 8am today.
One firefighter said: “The farm building was down a dirt track about 800m long, it was very remote and getting water to fight the fire was a problem. That’s why it was made into a ‘10-pump incident’. We had to join hoses together and eventually found a source of water in the form of a stream about a mile-and-a-half away.”
Each fire engine carries about 20 25m long pumps, firefighters had to tramp over fields, through woods and thread the hose through fences in order to reach the stream.
