Fire engine in Leeds 999 collision
A traffic light was damaged when a fire engine answering an emergency call and a car collided.
The crash involved a fire engine and a blue Ford Focus at the junction of the A61 Hunslet Road with Leathley and Sayner roads in Hunslet, Leeds, shortly before 9am on Wednesday. (February 1)
The driver of the Focus required first aid treatment by paramedics at the scene, but it is believed none of the fire crew from Hunslet Station was injured in the impact.
The fire appliance was answering an emergency call to a report of a flat fire at the nearby Clarence Dock flats complex in Hunslet, and would be expected to have had its blue flashing lights and emergency sirens operating at the time.
A replacement fire engine was despatched to the flat, but it was discovered the call turned out to be a false alarm with good intent, said a spokesman for West Yorkshire Fire Service.
