Workshops aimed at getting Leeds residents financially fighting fit are helping fend off loan sharks.

The Financial Fitness project, run by West Yorkshire Trading Standards (WYTS), is seeing a series of information events highlight the dangers of illegal money lenders and point people towards credit unions and financial advice services.

The scheme, which has seen hundreds trained to assist those in financial difficulty, runs sessions in south and east Leeds.

Coun Kim Groves (Lab, Middleton Park) said: “WYTS are doing a fantastic job through this and other projects to tackle financial hardship across the county.”
