Featherstone ex- bus driver jailed for paedophile offences
A FORMER bus driver who hoarded youngsters' photo bus passes has been jailed indefinitely for a string of child sex crimes.
Dangerous paedophile Russell Westwood, of Moor Road, Featherstone, had hundreds of sick images on his computer and i-pod.
When police raided his home they discovered a collection of bus passes issued to children which Westwood, 40, had got hold of.
Leeds Crown Court heard Westwood had also sexually assaulted a girl under 16 and secretly filmed a young woman using a toilet. Handing Westwood and indeterminate jail sentence for the public protection, Judge Geoffrey Marson QC told him: "Also found at your home were a number of bus passes depicting photographs of young people.
"You had previously worked as a bus driver.
"There is no evidence of impropriety in your employment but this is a further troubling feature of your case."
Police discovered the bus passes and child sex abuse images on Westwood's computer in December 2007.
Officers had raided his address after a girl under 16 claimed Westwood had sexually assaulted her after plying her with booze.
He failed to register as a sex offender after admitting indecent image charges and police arrested him again in December 2008.
They discovered 1,366 child sex abuse images and videos on computer
equipment and an i-pod found in his car.
Many of the images involved children aged between six and nine.
In July, 1992 he was jailed for 18 months for three offences of indecently assaulting young girls, including one aged six.
Westwood had admitted indecent assault, voyeurism, failing to register as a sex offender and offences relating to indecent images and films of children.
His name will be on the Sex Offenders' Register for life. Judge Marson said Westwood must serve a minimum of three years and will only be released when no longer deemed a danger to children.
If and when he is ever released Westwood will be on licence for life and liable to be re-called to prison at any time.
