Celtic were today facing near-certain expulsion from the Football Conference after their financial woes forced the cancellation of three games in a row.

Fears have also been growing that their Throstle Nest ground could be a target for developers following the collapse of club president John Palmer's bid to bring them out of administration.

Now, though, the Yorkshire Evening Post has been told that a Mr Palmer-fronted consortium could be among the bidders for Throstle Nest, if and when it is put on the market by Farsley's administrator, accountancy firm Mazars.

Celtic are also understood to be hopeful that, if they do end up being expelled from the Conference, they will be accepted for membership next season of a league further down the English football pyramid.

One possible destination could be the UniBond First Division North, two rungs below their current home in the Conference's Blue Square North.
Farsley went into administration last July and are reported to owe more than 500,000 to creditors.
Their plight took a turn for the worse last week when their creditors' committee called a halt to the interim funding agreement that has kept them alive this season.
The move effectively stopped Celtic trading and as a result they have been unable to fulfil their last three fixtures.
Chester City were kicked out of the Conference earlier this season after missing two matches.
The committee ended the funding agreement after Mr Palmer failed to come up with what it saw as a suitable offer, despite months of negotiations.
* The club is stressing that its junior and women's sides are continuing to play matches as usual on pitches in and around Farsley.
Leeds Carnegie Ladies FC's first team games at Throstle Nest have also been unaffected by Celtic's current troubles.
