Then East Leeds History & Archaeology Society could provide the answers.
The group, based at Cross Gates Library, offer local peopler a Family Research Service.
They have more than 30 parish records on microfiche which they will trawl through to help find a baptism, marriage or death.
And they will then send the records either by GIF file over the Internet or by post.
They charge a nominal 2.50 fee for the original search and one record, plus 50 pence for each additional record after that. All proceeds to to ELHAS funds.
Bob Lawrence, general secretary & treasurer of East Leeds History & Archaeology Society, said: "We do not do blanket searches and ask that enquirers provide at least the year of the event, with the name of the relative."
* Anyone wanting to make use of the Family Research Service is asked to email Bob Lawrence at el.has@ntlworld.com
