Families have been flocking for some sandy fun in the sun – in a city centre precinct.

There has been all the fun of the fair at Wakefield by the Sea over the weekend – with a beach, donkey rides, Punch and Judy, live music, sand art and windmill making workshops, pedal boats, a Victorian carousel and deck chairs, along with a host of street entertainment including Dame Candy Floss and a food and craft market.

A Disney roadshow was also staged by Change4Life yesterday (Saturday).

Visitors took to Twitter to share their pictures of the event, with Diane Lee describing the day as ‘brilliant fun’.

Twitter users have been asked to share their photos of the Wakefield Council event with other visitors by tweeting using the hashtag #Wakefieldseaside – the pictures are being sent to the big screen in the cathedral precinct for everyone to enjoy.

Coun Les Shaw, cabinet member for culture, leisure and sport, said: “This was a fun-filled weekend for everyone with so many different activities happening.”
